GRANDMA’S HOMEMADE CAKE

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate Dry Ingredients and Buttermilk:
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Bake:
    • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool:
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Frosting:

  1. Cream Butter:
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth.
  2. Add Powdered Sugar and Milk:
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the milk and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Frost the Cake:
    • Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.

Optional: Decorate as desired with sprinkles, grated chocolate, or additional decorations.
