These old-fashioned yeast-raised donuts are pillowy-soft inside with a perfectly golden crust. Glazed, sugared, or filled—after tasting these, you might never look at store-bought donuts the same way again.

Ingredients

For the Donut Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¾ cup warm milk (not hot, about 110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
