Classic Homemade Apple Pie

Ingredients:

For the Pie Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice water

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 cups apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

For Assembly:

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (for dotting)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pie Crust:

  • In a food processor, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the cold, cubed butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, pulsing until the dough starts to come together.
  • Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
