BREAD WITH MILK AND BUTTER

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of the flour, the sugar, salt, and yeast.
    • In a small saucepan, heat the milk, butter, and water over medium heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm (but not hot, about 110°F or 43°C).
    • Add the warm milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
    • Add the egg and mix well.
  2. Knead the Dough:
    • Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough comes together and is no longer sticky.
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Shape the Dough:
    • Punch down the dough to release the air. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
    • Place the shaped dough into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  5. Second Rise:
    • Cover the loaf pan with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise again in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
    • If the bread is browning too quickly, cover it loosely with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes of baking.
  7. Cool:
    • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
    • Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Tips:

  • Warm Place for Rising: If your kitchen is cool, you can let the dough rise in an oven that’s been slightly warmed (preheat to 200°F and then turn it off before placing the dough inside).
  • Butter the Top: For an extra buttery finish, brush the top of the loaf with melted butter immediately after it comes out of the oven.
  • Milk: Whole milk provides the best flavor and texture, but you can use 2% milk if preferred.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Toast: This bread makes excellent toast. Spread with butter, jam, or honey for a simple and delicious treat.
  • Sandwiches: Use slices for sandwiches; its soft texture pairs well with both savory and sweet fillings.
  • French Toast: Turn leftover slices into decadent French toast for breakfast or brunch.

This bread with milk and butter is a comforting, versatile loaf that brings warmth and deliciousness to any table. Enjoy the process of making it and the delightful results!
