Some tender BBQ ribs

Creating tender and flavorful BBQ ribs requires a combination of the right seasoning, cooking technique, and, of course, a delicious barbecue sauce. Here’s a basic recipe for tender BBQ ribs:

Ingredients:

For the Ribs:

  • 2 racks of baby back ribs (about 4-5 pounds total)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

For the BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ribs:
    • Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs for better tenderness. Season the ribs with salt and black pepper.
  2. Create the Dry Rub:
    • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
  3. Apply the Dry Rub:
    • Rub the dry rub mixture over both sides of the ribs, ensuring an even coating. Wrap the seasoned ribs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to let the flavors penetrate the meat.
  4. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
  5. Cook the Ribs Low and Slow:
    • Place the ribs on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Cover tightly with another sheet of foil, creating a sealed packet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 2.5 to 3 hours or until the ribs are tender and cooked through.
  6. Prepare the BBQ Sauce:
    • While the ribs are cooking, prepare the barbecue sauce by combining ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a saucepan. Simmer over low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Grill or Broil the Ribs:
    • Preheat your grill or broiler. Transfer the cooked ribs to the grill or broiler and baste them generously with the prepared barbecue sauce. Grill or broil for an additional 10-15 minutes, turning and basting occasionally, until the ribs develop a caramelized, slightly crispy exterior.
  8. Rest and Serve:
    • Allow the ribs to rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.

Enjoy your tender and flavorful BBQ ribs! This method combines slow baking with grilling or broiling to achieve both tenderness and a delicious smoky flavor.
