BREAD WITH MILK AND BUTTER

1. Activate the Yeast:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

2. Warm the Milk and Butter:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

3. Combine Ingredients:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
  2. Pour the activated yeast mixture and the warm milk mixture into the well.
  3. Stir the ingredients together until a dough forms.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is smooth and slightly sticky.

4. Knead the Dough:

  1. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  2. Knead the dough for about 5-8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.

5. Let the Dough Rise:

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

6. Shape the Dough:

  1. Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles.
  2. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.

7. Let the Dough Rise Again:

  1. Cover the loaf pan with a kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes until it’s puffy and has risen slightly above the rim of the pan.

8. Bake the Bread:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until it’s golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

9. Optional: Brush with Butter (for added flavor and shine):

  1. Remove the bread from the oven and brush the top with melted butter, if desired.

10. Cool and Serve:

  1. Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Slice and serve your homemade bread with milk and butter!
