Make Your Own KFC-Style Fried Chicken

This copycat recipe brings that famous 11-herb-and-spice flavor to your kitchen with perfectly seasoned, extra crispy fried chicken that tastes just like the Colonel’s—maybe even better!

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 8–10 chicken pieces (drumsticks, thighs, wings, etc.)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional, for marinade)
  • Salt & pepper

For the Seasoned Flour Coating:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper (key KFC flavor!)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying (canola or peanut oil work great)
