Air Fryer Homemade Bread

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
    • Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
    • Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
    • Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment.
  4. First Rise:
    • Grease a large bowl with olive oil and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.
    • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough:
    • Punch down the risen dough to release any air bubbles.
    • Shape the dough into a round or oval loaf, depending on the size and shape of your air fryer basket.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Place the shaped dough on a piece of parchment paper or in a lightly greased air fryer basket.
    • Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until it has doubled in size again.
  7. Preheat the Air Fryer:
    • Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Air Fry the Bread:
    • Brush the top of the dough with milk (optional) for a golden crust.
    • Carefully place the dough in the preheated air fryer.
    • Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 20-25 minutes. The bread is done when it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. An internal temperature of 190°F (88°C) confirms it’s fully baked.
  9. Cool the Bread:
    • Carefully remove the bread from the air fryer and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Tips:

  • Dough Consistency: If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the right consistency.
  • Rising Environment: For a warm rising environment, you can place the dough in an oven with just the light on or in a microwave with a cup of hot water.
  • Flavor Variations: You can add herbs, garlic, cheese, or other seasonings to the dough for added flavor.

Enjoy your homemade air fryer bread with butter, jam, or as a side to your favorite dishes!
