Sloppy Joes on Garlic Toast used to be my kids

Step 1: Make the Sloppy Joe Filling

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire, mustard, and brown sugar.
  4. Simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes, until thick and saucy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Toast

  1. Mix butter, garlic powder, and parsley together.
  2. Spread over both sides of each bread slice.
  3. Toast in a skillet or bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping once, until golden and crispy.
  4. (Optional) Sprinkle with cheese and broil for 1–2 minutes until melted.

Step 3: Assemble

  • Spoon hot sloppy joe mixture over each piece of garlic toast.
  • Serve open-faced or stacked like a sandwich.

Tips:

  • Make it a kid-friendly meal night with a side of fries or apple slices.
  • Leftover filling keeps well for 2–3 days and can be served over pasta, rice, or baked potatoes!
