Tender, savory, and bathed in a tangy tomato sauce — just like Grandma used to make!
Ingredients (Makes 10–12 rolls):
For the Cabbage Rolls:
- 1 large green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef (or half beef, half pork)
- 1/2 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
For the Tomato Sauce:
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: a pinch of crushed red pepper or paprika
