Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour (plus more if needed)
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup warm milk (not hot—about 100°F / 38°C)
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (optional, for extra softness)
