  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup Guinness stout or dark beer
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 large carrots, peeled and sliced into chunks
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
