Butchi, also known as Buchi or Sesame Seed Balls, is a Filipino snack made with sweet rice dough filled with sweetened mongo (mung bean) paste and coated in sesame seeds before deep-frying. Here’s a recipe for making Butchi:

Butchi (Filipino Sesame Seed Balls)

Ingredients:

For the Sweet Mongo Filling:

  • 1 cup peeled split mung beans (munggo)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Water for boiling

For the Sweet Rice Dough:

  • 2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Sesame seeds for coating
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Sweet Mongo Filling:

  1. Boil Mung Beans:
    • Rinse the mung beans and place them in a pot. Add enough water to cover the beans and bring to a boil. Simmer until the beans are soft, about 20-30 minutes.
    • Drain excess water and mash the boiled mung beans. Mix in the sugar. Set aside to cool.
